Explanation / Answer

Ans.

I. Liposomes- d. DNA vehicle for cellular uptake via endocytosis. DNA can be packed in liposomes. The resultant liposome, when incubate with competent cells, is taken up by the host cell by endocytosis. Thus, liposome is used to deliver DNA intoto the target cell.

II. T-DNA: a. Its nuclear integration causes uncontrolled cancerous cellular growth. T DNA or Ti-plasmid or tumor inducing plasmid crown gall tumor in Agrobacterium tumefaciens.

III. Retrovirus- g. Recombination following reverse-transcription integrates the gene of interest. Retrovirus has RNA as genetic material. When inside a host cell, their genomic RNA undergoes reverse transcription to produce complementary DNA which can later integrate into host cell genome.

IV. Chimera – b. Used to identify recombinants which have undergone gene replacement.

V. GloFish – e. Transgenic Danio rerio. There are transgenic zebrafish that may glow green, red or yellow, etc. depending in the type of gene integrated into their genome.

VI. Bacillus thuringiensis – f. Source of insecticidal protein for crop protection. A GMO crop with BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) gene in them produces cry protein which is toxic to specific insects and kill them. For example, BT cotton, etc.

VIII. Biolistic gene transfer. c. Used with some monocot plants like rice. Biolistic gene transfer or gene gun can be used to deliver DNA into monocot plant tissue for RDT purpose. This method can also be used for other plants as well as animal cell gene transfer.
