Question
2. Given that the melting point of salicylic acid is 159 C, can you be certain that the product you isolated was not pure salicylic acid that was unchanged during the reaction ? Can you be certain that the product you isolated was not impure salicylic acid ? Explain your answers using your data.3. Was your percent yield of aspirin exactly 100%? If not, give reasons why your yield was greater or less than 100%
4. Why did the procedure direct you to isolate your aspirin crystals using suction filtration (with a vacuum) rather than simply using gravity filtration (with no vacuum) ?
1 What data did you collect to indicate that you successfully produced aspirin? What did your results indicate abou the purity of the aspirin you obtained? Explain your answers.
Explanation / Answer
1.After reaction we check HPLC, IR,LCMS, NMR based on these results we tell that our compound is desired product or not
HPLC it gives purity of our product
IR gives information which functional groups present in the structure
LCMS gives Mass of our product
NMR gives protan location in our product .
Based on these results we will comform our compouns is desired or undesired.
Based on HPLC or TLC data easily tells our purity , if purity is not good we will do purification by different tyes like Crystalisation, column purification or some washings..etc.
