Question
A solution was prepared by adding silver nitrate to water (AgNO_3 (aq)). Figure 2 illustrates the observed changes as additional chemicals were added to the original AgNO_3(aq) solution. Explain the results shown in each test tube given the descriptions below Include a balanced equation (s) for the reactions(s) taking place. Your responses will be graded on completeness, accuracy, and clarity (a) Test Tube 1: NaCl (aq) was added to the original AgNO_3 (aq) solution (b) Test Tube 2: NH_3 (aq) was added to the NaCl (aq)/AgNO_3 (aq) solution (c) Test Tube 3: HNO_3(aq) was added to the NaCl_(aq)/AgNO_3(aq)/NH_3(aq) solution.Explanation / Answer
a. When NaCl was added to AgNO3 solution no chage will be observed.
NaCl is salt and stable compare to AgNO3 so it will not form further complex.
b. When NH3 was added to the solution it will gives precipitation of Ag(NH3)2+ complex.
This complex is stable over AgNO3 so it will ppt forms.
c. When HNO3 will added to this solution foems ppt will dissolved because of solubility increses due to HNO3 aq.
But complex remains as Ag(NH3)+ in aquous phase.
