Question
If 1.00 mole of an ideal gas has a pressure of 1.00 atmospheres at 0 degree C and 22.4 Liters, then what is the pressure of 1.00 mole of an ideal gas at - 115 degree C and a volume equal to 22.4 Liters? a) 1.00 atm b) 0.902 atm c) 0.750 atm d) 0.579 atm e) 0.454 atm If 1.00 mole of an ideal gas has a volume of 22.4 Liters at 1.00 atmosphere of pressure at 0 degree C, then what the volume of 1.00 mole of an ideal gas at 1.00 atmospheres of pressure and - 115 degree C? a) 22.4 L b) 17.9 L c) 14.8 L d) 13.5 L e) 13.0 LExplanation / Answer
Hi,
As we know that for an ideal gas:-
P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2
where P is the pressure, T is the temperature, V is the volume
and subscripts 1 and 2 signify state 1 and 2
Substituting the values from the question we get
(1atm)*(22.4L)/(273K) = P2*(22.4L)/(273-115K) as 0*C = 273K
therefore P2 = 0.579 atm (answer) option d
