2. How is this definition similar or different to what you thought dependency/addiction was prior to starting this course? (25 points)

ans1 ---- Addiction ----- primary , chronic neurobiologic disease with genetic evironmental factors that influence its develoment. It includes the characteristics ------------ 1. loss of control over drug use 2. continued use despite of its harmful effects. 3. complusive use / craving.

Physical dependence ----- It refers to a state where the individual is dependent upon the drug for normal physiological functioning. It involves disturbances in the general bodily functioning --- vomiting , sweating , diarrhea. It can occur without addiction (therapeutic use of steroids ) , addiction can occur without appreciable physical dependence (cocaine).

ans 2 ---- Physical dependence can happen with the chronic use of many drugs ---- incuding many prescribed drugs , thus it is in and itself doesnot constitute addiction , but is often accompanied by addiction.

Addiction ---- complusive drug use despite harmful consequence --- inability to stop using a drug , failure to meet work , social and famiily obligations.

ans 3 ----- Addict looks like having deterioation of physical appearence , unusual smells on breath , body and clothing. the person having slurred speech , bloodshot eyes , pupils larger , impaired coordination.
