chemistry questions, please do it all and correctly:

Which of the properties below apply to the polymer that forms when the following monomers react? a polyester an addition polymer a substituted polyethylene a polyamide a condensation polymer Solid strontium chloride has the same kind of crystal structure as CaF_2 which is pictured below: How many CI^- ions are there per unit cell in solid strontium chloride? How many SrCI_2 formula units are there per unit cell? Solid strontium chloride has the same kind of crystal structure as CaF_2 which is pictured below. If the edge length of the unit cell is 700.0 pm, what is the density of SrCl_2 in g/cm^3. g/cm^3 Solid strontium fluoride has the same kind of crystal structure as CaF_2 which is pictured below: If the edge length of the unit cell is 586.0 pm. what is the density of SrF_2 in g/cm^3. g/cm^3 The substance gray tin is found to crystallize in a cubic lattice, with an edge length of 646.0 pm. If the density of solid gray tin is 5.850 g/cm^3, how many Sn atoms arc there per unit cell? Your answer should be an integer: atoms

Explanation / Answer

1) The poymer formed is an addition polymer (as a water molecule is eliminated during the combination of an acid and an alcohol) and is a polyester (RCOOR)

2) As SrCL2 has CaF2 (fuorite) structure , the Sr occupies the lattice points and Cl occupies all the tetrahedral voids.

Thus the number of Cl- ions per unit cell = 8 (= number of tetrahedral voids)

and the number of Sr+2 ions per unit cell = 4 ( 1 from corners 8x1/8 and 3 from face centres 6x1/2)

thus the total number of SrCl2 units = 4 per unit cell.

3) we know

density of unit cell = number of units x molar mass /[avogadro number x volume(a3)]

= 4 x 158.62 / [6.022x1023x(7 x 10-8 cm)3]

= 3.071g/cc

4)

density of unit cell = number of units x molar mass /[avogadro number x volume(a3)]

= 4 x 125.62/ [6.022x1023x(5.86x 10-8 cm)3]

= 4.146g/cc

4)

density of unit cell = number of units x molar mass /[avogadro number x volume(a3)]

5.850g/cc = z x118.7 / [6.022x1023x(6.46x 10-8 cm)3]

Thus z = 8
