FIS is an important protein which regulates expression of other genes . it regulates its own expression , most abundant DNA binding protein , it is a global regulator protein in E.coli that activates the rRNA transcription by binding to three upstream activation sites of the rRNA promoter and enhances the transcription to 5 to 10 fold in vivo

it has a direct role in upstream activation of rRNA promoters .
