Question

100% 7:51 AM ..ooo Sprint Wi-Fi F have to write net-ionic equations for the reactions that provided me with the data to the presence of each cation. I attached the cations that we're present and not present in my unknown solution. lam just having trouble writing out the equations. write net ionic in your laboratory notebook, besides the detailed observations you made. the presence of each equations for the reactions that provided you with the data to determine Mark each ion either present or absent from the unknown solution according to your findings. Present Absent Ion Ag 2+ 24 Cu Fe Ali Zn

Explanation / Answer

1) if a white precipitate is formed on adding HCl to a solution of ions then there is Ag+ in the solution

The net ionic equation will be

Ag+ + Cl- --> AgCl(s)

For confirmation of Ag+ the equation will be

AgCl(s) + 2 NH3(aq--->[Ag(NH3)2]+(aq) + Cl–(aq)

b) For Cu+2

Cu2+(aq) + 2OH–(aq)--->Cu(OH)2(s)

The confirmatory equation will be, which is the dissolution of blue ppt of copper hydroxide to form a intense blue coloured solution of copper ammonia complex.

Cu(OH)2(s) + 4NH3(aq) ---> [Cu(NH3)4]2+(aq) + 2OH–(aq)

c) Aluminium ions give white ppt on reaction with hydroxide ions

Al3+(aq) + 3OH–(aq) ---> Al(OH)3(s)

Which gets dissolved in dissolves in the strongly basic conditions to give a colourless solution

Al(OH)3(s) + 3OH–(aq) -->[Al(OH)6]3–(aq)

Rest of the cations are not present
