As far as figuring out the math for chemistry, how do we know when we begin the equation what goes in the numerator and what goes in the denominator? I understand the concept of cross cancelling but I sometimes flip the what should go in the numerator when I begin any ideas? Explanation / Answer

While solving chemistry problems we must write simple steps .

For example, if we asked to find no.of grams of oxygen in 100 g water, then we must solve as follows

H2O molecular mass. - 18 g

So 18 g H2O contain 16 g O (oxygen)

Then 1 g H2O contains 16/18 g O

Therefore 100 g H2O contain - 100* 16/18 - 88.89 g O

There is no common rule to solve chemistry problems, we must do like this.
