Question
The absorption spectra from pigments extracted from two different types of plants A and B have been determined. The absorption data are shown in the table below. High, medium, and low refer to the amount of light that is absorbed by the plant pigments.

What color is each plant? Plant A is ____ because. Plant B is _____ because.
Leaves from each of these plants are each placed in a closed system container that has a small opening through which one can measure photosynthesis-derived oxygen production. What will the results be for each plant if light only in the 650 nm range is supplied? 500 nm range? 450 nm range? Explain. (Hint, the results would be data for action spectra.)

Explanation / Answer
Answer: Both plants (A & B) are green in color.
The plant A absorbs light at 450nm and 650nm, where as the plant B absorbs maximum light at 500nm and 700nm. Photosynthesis is the process in which the light energy is converted to energy for the plants. The plants contain the green pigment called the chlorophyll, which is the light harvesting pigment.the green color chlorophyll absorbs all the non green light (blue, red and yellow). The wave lenght of blue(400 to 450nm), red and yellow (600 to 700nm). The chlorophyll a strongly absorbs ligh between 450 to 500nm approximately.
