Question

NOTE: On the course website you will find examples in the required homework format for EES Solutions. Please look these over as you prepare your solution Solve 3.48 from Balmer using EES Use a parametric table to solve for a range of ending pressures extending from 2.00 MPa to atmospheric pressure. Plot the resulting steam quality as a function of ending pressure. Use EES to create a p-H (pressure-enthalpy) diagram for water that focuses on saturation behavior up to the critical point. Illustrate/explain how you can use this chart to validate your solution to 3.48. Solve 3.55 from the Balmer text using EES. Verify your answers against those from the thermodynamic tables supplement. Discuss issues you encountered with each method.

Explanation / Answer

In order to solve above problem following formula is needed:

Percentage of flash steam generated=(Hf1-Hf2)/Hfq2*100

Where, Hf1=liquid enthalpy at initial pressure,KJ/kg

Hf2=liquid enthalpy at final pressure,KJ/kg

Hfq2=enthalpy of evaporation at final pressure,KJ/kg

For part (b)

Hf1=981.2KJ/kg

Hf2=762.6KJ/kg

Hfq2=2013.6KJ/kg

Hence,

% flash steam generated=(981.2-762.6)/2013.6*100=10.85

For part (c)

Hf1=1141.8KJ/kg

Hf2=762.6KJ/kg

Hfq2=2013.6KJ/kg

Hence,

% Flash steam generated=(1141.8-762.6)/2013.6*100=18.83

For part (a) & (d) more information is needed.
