Determine which of each pair of acids is more acidic (lower pKa) and select it from the dropdown menu. Then select the chemical principle which best explains why that acid is more acidic. NH4+ is more acidic than due to v Select l NH3 His bonded to a larger atom His bonded to a smaller atom His bonded to a more electronegative atom is mor HCI Y His bonded to a less electronegative atom more resonance HI due tc less resonance more s orbital character in the C-H bond more p orbital character in the C-H bond CH3 CH2CH3 is mor some other reason due to: select CH3CCH NH3 is more acidic than due to: [Select] H20 CH3 CH2CH2OH is more acidic than due to: [Select CH3CH2COOHExplanation / Answer
1.NH4+ is more acidic than NH3 because NH4+ is conjucate acid of NH3
NH3 + H2O ------ > NH4+ + OH -
< -------
2. HI is more acidic than HCl becaise due to large size of Iodine , the bond strengyh between of H - I is weaker than H-Cl. So, Hl easily loose the proton comparing to HCl.
3.CH3CCH is more acidic than CH3CH2CH3 because CH3CCH having more pi orbital character in C-H bond
4. H2O is more acid than NH3 because H is bonded to more electronegative atom in H2O. Accross the periodic table electronegayivity increases and acidity also increase.
5.CH3CH2COOH is more acidic than CH3CH2CH2OH because of more resonance. The carboxylate anion is more stabilized by resonance but this is not in the case of alkoxylate anion.
