Explanation / Answer
Deming’s 14 Practices:
1. The core focus & purpose of the organization ought to be in lines with all product & service offerings of the organization. For any successful company market focus and purpose is mandatory. For e.g. Disney and enjoyment
2. Adopting new developments and philosophies in lines of latest quality practices should be order for any company’s growth. For e.g. TQM to Six sigma
3. Quality should be part of the company’s culture and should not be dependent on the inspection reports etc. For e.g. Toyota.
4. Bring your customers close, but your Vendors closers. Changing suppliers for price competency is an old practice & is not irrelevant. For e.g. Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) system of Walmart
5. Constant improvement in each step makes the organization always striving to be the best. For e.g. Facebook
6. On the job training makes the learning experience more efficient in terms of learning curve and costs. For e.g. Cognizant new hire plan
7. Making in - house leaders with employee empowerment at each level. For e.g. Google
8. Organization should be driven by motivation and not fear. Job security is one the basic parameters to make this success. For e.g. Tata consultancy services
9. Make the employee closer and hierarchy flat by removing the barriers between leaders and employees. For e.g. Valve
10. Remove sales targets and replace with motivational factors. For e.g. Barclays
11. Remove number games & don’t succumb to the pressures of the quarterly reports. For e.g. 3M
12. Plan motivational factor and replace the performance rating system with 360 degree feedback sessions. For e.g. Accenture
13. Giving opportunity for employee skill development and employee growth. For e.g. Apple
14. Making transformation the culture of the company and work practice of its employees. For e.g. Cisco
It’s very difficult to have all the above qualities and in house practices on one organization. The organization I work for has been taking over one after the other for. E.g. removing performance rating system and making the core purpose of the company relevant.
