Question
Micro Writing
Write a concise letter as instructed in the scenario below;
You are the CEO of a small company. You have received a request from one of your part-time employees, who works for the public schools in conflict-resolution. She wants to use your company’s monthly lunch meeting to inform your employees of the success of this school project. Although your employees could use training in “conflict-resolution,” you do not want to allow your monthly meeting to be a forum for this discussion. Therefore, you must graciously reject her request and write an appropriate refusal to her request. Use concise writing, avoid wordiness, choose appropriate tone, choose appropriate style, and determine appropriate voice. Remember to give good reasons why you must decline, but end your letter with goodwill.
Use the “Microwriting Checklist” below to be sure you have included all of the characteristics of micro writing;
- The letter has been worded for brevity. Sentence structure is appropriate.
- The tone of the wording is appropriate. The style (formal/passive) is consistent throughout the letter.
- Correct grammar, spelling and punctuation are used throughout the letter.
Explanation / Answer
Dear Ms. XXXX
I have received you request to address our employees during the lunch time to address the issues regarding the conflict resolution. I have learnt about your successful implementation of the project in the school nearby. However we in our organization are having a different process in the conflict resolution. That is under the process and it is seemingly working well. I dont want to complicate things with a different set of ideas. I would kindly request you to excuse us this time. If the current process is not working, we would surely have a look into your services for conflict resolution. Finally I would like to thank you for the interest shown in our organization.
