Explanation / Answer

Who are the two vendors that you have selected?

Ans:- SAP and Oracle Apps.

What common components do you notice that their systems share?

Ans:- There are no. of components that both the systems from the company share and these are listed as below:-

Both Oracle and SAP have all these components as common as rivals and all of these are used for different functions to support and help the staff in many different ways. These components basically derives the entire business, as these are directly linked with each other and solves anarchy of many tasks which are being required by many departments in an organization.

What differences do you note between the two systems?

Ans:- SAP is a complex ERP software that integrates several business applications, while Oracle is ORDBMS that could be used in enterprise environments. SAP allows real time management and tracking of sales, productions, finance, accounting and human resources in an enterprise, while Oracle DBMS can be used to manage data in the enterprise. SAP is developed to be used with many database systems and it includes interfaces for Oracle as well. During the initial SAP installation, Oracle can be defined as the database that is going to be used and then the SAP system will issue SQL commands that are compatible with the Oracle DBMS. So in short, both systems serve the similar purpose, but have different process and way of dealing with the day to day transactions that come out of the business. Both services are available 24x7 and server to support the business with 99.99% uptime, provided the user is in a well maintained network zone and there are no bandwidth glitches. One sort of difference which I have noticed is that Oracle is far more easier to implement compared to SAP, as there are limited modules that server the purpose, while SAP on the other hand, have many modules and have detailed sub modules that have to be clearly understood and trained, before going ahead to use it. SAP users need detailed training for the particular modules that they are actually going to work on, and of course high level of investments in terms of infrastructure and user training.

Is the ERP software available as a single package, or are there multiple modules (components) that you can purchase independently?

Ans:- ERP stands alone as a term in case of both the systems i.e. which is a combination of multiple modules to constitute the ERP. However, it is dependent on the need of the user or the organization that which particular module they really need, one could buy and implement the entire package, if they require complete ERP solution for the organization or they may choose multiple modules out of the following based on the priority of the need for a particular function, in terms of automating their work processes and procedures through ERP/ERP modules.

Name at least two companies that have adopted one of the ERP software packages that you have researched. Cite your sources to identify how you learned that each of these companies uses that particular vendor's ERP software.

Ans:-

SAP:-

SAP has been used widely by many companies throughout the world. There are few big companies like Pepsi, and TATA Steel who are currently using SAP. My site of evidence for these companies is because, I have worked for TATA and have seen them using the SAP ERP system. And for Pepsi, I have many colleagues and friends who used to interact and talk about SAP modules there as they were working at Pepsi. Apart from this, being an IT manager, I used to attend many conferences related to SAP discussions and I was able to see many company stakeholders present in the discussion for SAP, and Pepsi was one of them.

Oracle:-

After SAP comes the name of Oracle, again the 2 companies that I have noticed and have been using the Oracle ERP system are Oriflame Cosmetics, Escorts India. I have worked with Oriflame as Assistant manager IT and have seen them using the Oracle ERP system for their business needs and similarly for Escorts, I had colleagues and friends who have worked for them on the Oracle ERP and used to connect and share their findings about the ERP system.

So, these are my given thoughts on the ERP’s and my knowledge regarding the organizations who have been using these systems along by citing the experiences, what have I mentioned about these companies.
