Explanation / Answer
Answer:
1. The most influencing and regulatory agency for the health care organisation is the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). They have framed and issued the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, 1996 (HIPAA) to monitor and regulate the health standards of the individual and to set standards for protection of health information by the health care organisations. They have also set standards for Privacy of individually indentifiable health information for the protection of certain health information. However, the irony is that most of the people in general public are least aware about these standards and therefore become an hinderance in success of these standards.
2. As per the regulatory and monitoring laws it is mandate on the part of the organisations to teach and train all their employees about the fire safety codes and assure that they are knowledgable of what needs to be done and how it shall be done in the event of a fire. However, in practical life the same is not true in many cases and therefore, the employees as well as the patients in general are found to be unaware of the fire safety codes and even know what to do in the event of a fire. This is rare in big organisation but very common in small and medium organisations.
3. If we talk about the big health care organisations we can say that yes, they do comply with HIPAA to a great extent as far as the curtains that seperate patient quarters like pre-op areas or ER's really protect patients' privacy. However, when we talk about the medium and small health care facility organisations the view differs to a great extent and mostly in the direction otherwise. This may be so because either they are not very much aware about these standards or their facility infrastructure and the financial strengths restrict their compliances with the standards.
4. All the safety regulations are majorly centered at the concept of promoting a culture of safety in the health care organisations. Though we may find some regulations that prioritize the concepts of fairness in health care facility and the protection of health information like HIPAA.
