Question
Hanna’s Super Service Burgers and Fries fast-food restaurant trains its new employees (all of whom are part-time) for three days to assemble its different burgers. The most time-consuming item to assemble is the Super Mega-Burger because it includes a lot of ingredients. After three days of training, an employee can assemble his or her first MegaBurger as a regular employee in an average of 126 seconds. The learning curve for this assembly operation is estimated to be 85%, and no additional learning will take place after assembly of the eightieth Mega-Burger. Determine how many seconds will be required for an employee to assemble his or her eightieth Mega-Burger.
Explanation / Answer
The learning curve formula is:
Y = axb
Where Y = cumulative average time per unit to produce x units
a = the time taken for the first unit of output
x = the cumulative number of units produced
b = the index of learning (log LR/log2)
LR = the learning rate as a decimal
Therefore from above we conclude that average time for 18 units is 63.98126 seconds, similarly the average time for 17 units is 64.84448
The caculations for the time required for 18th unit is as follows:
Employee will take 49.31 seconds to prepare the 18th Mega-Burger
In the question a = 126 Log(LR) Log(2) LR = 0.85 -0.07058 0.30103 b = -0.23447 x = 18 0.507788 xPower b Y = 63.98126Related Questions
