Many years ago, it was announced that the 2016 Summer Olympic Games would be held in Rio de Janeiro. Lots of strategic planning and expense went into a massive overhaul of infrastructure and cleanup efforts in anticipation of this magnificent event. Today, the threat of the Zika virus emerging from that area has severely altered expectations and plans. Some athletes are even cancelling plans to participate. For your consideration: Is long-term strategic planning worth it? Why or why not? If it is, what is an appropriate planning window (months, years, etc.)? How do you plan for contingencies? Explain.

For a prestigious event like Olympics definitely long term plan is required. `Then only they can forecast the requirements, analyse the budget for the conducting the event, developing infrastructure and other transportation facilities in order to accommodate huge crowds from all over the world. It is the privilege and opportunity for Brazil to host such a world class event. This will definitely help them to improve their reach across global in terms of economical and social perspective.

Contingency plans are necessary to meet the uncertainties on time. The threat of Zika virus become a serious alert and chances of affecting the Olympics event is very high. As said many athletes have already cancelled their plan. It is because of lack of security and trust developed by Brazilian country. They shpuld have proposed a new plan based on contingency to avoid the spread of such serious virus and they must communicate to the worlds regarding the current status and measures taken to control. Its their responsibility to meet the public through medias and other social publications to clearly communicate their plans to control the virus threat and must ensure the secured and safety measures to eradicate the same. The trust factor building is the necessary step for contingency plans. This will help in conducting the event more peacefully and successfully. Proper medical diagnosis and root cause analysis has to be done to prevent the spread of such virus and other medical related contagious diseases.
