There are countless people in need of our services in America today, including the disabled, those with mental health challenges, those living in poverty, the homeless, and victims of violence and domestic abuse, just to name a few. Which group in need concerns you the most? Why? Which group in need concerns you the most? Why? Be sure to address the following in your response: What can human service professionals do to empower this population? What are some of the barriers faced by this particular population? Explanation / Answer

Poverty issue is the one that concerns most because it is the source of many other problems such as homelessness, lack of education, lack of health care challenges and others. Even, issues raised in the paragraph are also directly or indirectly related to poverty. Thus, eradication of poverty with proper means help society the most.
Human service professionals can understand the diverse needs of people in poverty in a particular area and develop job oriented training programs in collaboration with the respective authorities. It will help improve the economic situation as well as the purchasing power of these individuals. Then, they can join the mainstream of the economy. Besides, human service professionals can channelize the government sponsored programs to these people to help them the most.
Some of the barriers faced by people in poverty are:
1.   Lack of access to health care
2.   Lack of home or shelter
3.   Unawareness about government schemes
4.   Lack of reach to talk to the right authorities
The government is running different programs to address different issues and almost all the programs are intended to achieve the objective. Though, it is the problem and its severity that decides the time taken to effectively implementation of the program.
