For this assignment, consider the following scenario: You are a passenger on a large ocean liner with 1000 passengers and crew, most of whom are not from the United States. A storm hits, and the entire ship is lost to the sea. You, your fellow passengers, and the surviving crew find yourselves stranded on a deserted island. Fortunately, you and your fellow castaways find enough food, water, and materials to build shelters for to ensure your survival, but you have no means to communicate with the outside world, and you learn that the ship was 1000s of miles off course. You learn there is little hope of a timely rescue, if there will be a rescue at all. Several weeks have passed, and, due to unrest within the group, the need for some sort of government is vital for the group's survival. You have been asked to join the committee who will decide how this government should be formed. In an essay of 500-750 words, persuade the group about the form your government should take and why. Consider and address opposing positions along with your rebuttal of those opposing positions. Use at least three sources to support your position (your textbook can be one of them). For instance you may write a paper explaining that the type of government selected is a democracy (and why) and the opposition would be those that disapprove of democracies (and why). Include a title page and at least three (3) references. Only one of your references may be found online (not Wikipedia) One reference can be your textbook. What type of Government would benefit all of the people? With people being from different places of the world we have decided to go with a Democratic government. Direct Democratic sounds great letting the people take full charge of all decisions that are made to make society better or worse. The problem with this type of government would be mobs the people would disagree and form groups and take the law in their own hands. Representative democracy can also be a productive option in which the people choose individuals on their behalf to take decisions and the citizens have second hand control of the government. Representative democracy protects the interest of the citizens, prevents the monopoly of authority, promotes equality, lessen conflicts within the public and it encourages change and stable administration. However, democracy can also instigate corruption within the few selected ones as they have the power to make and change the laws. It also has a risk factor of the wrong selection of representatives and due to its complex nature and many ruling party representatives it takes a lot of time in decision making. Based on the above discussion if the negative elements of a representative democracy government can be controlled and reduced it serves as the best option of a government to choose.
