Explanation / Answer
In this age of information technology (IT) it is not possible to keep Healthcare industry out of it. IT plays a major role in healthcare industry, the big question is can we rely on it completely.
Let’s take an example where we can see how a small function of IT can help in building brand value of the hospital or otherwise. A patient calls to hospital for an appointment once the tele caller person confirms the appointment, the patient gets the message on his/her cell phone on details of the appointment be it time, doctor to visit, the patient visit the hospital and goes to reception and go for the doctor meet, I would patient will be happy as he/she was duly informed. Now if there is change in the doctor availability and this information is not be informed to patient and patients drops to hospital will feel angry, I would say unhappy patient. Here we see with same IT service one patient returns happy another unhappy.
IT sector surely helped medical industry by improving quality, efficiency, reduced cost, earlier detection of disease and many more areas. At the same time the failure rate is very high, why it is so, what can be reason, according to the research and observations large It project are failed due to over budgeting, long completion schedule, unforeseen problem, also technology going old by the time the project completes as new technologies appear regularly.
The healthcare IT should have following qualities:
