Question
For this week's assignment, I would like for you to research the various efforts focused on evaluating the quality of care of patients in the healthcare industry. There are many software programs, such as the Crimson Initiative and other physician focused programs that are being used by medical communities and healthcare administration, which help to evaluate issues where they reside and future issues in this ever changing industry. Some of the quality measures that are being tracked and trended in healthcare are readmission rates, UTIs, patient falls, and blood stream infections.
1) Why are hospitals keeping track of these events?
2) Why are so many hospitals and other healthcare entities focusing on improving the quality of care they give to their patients?
3) Will reimbursement be tied to quality in the future, and if so, how?
IN YOUR OWN WORDS PLEASE
Explanation / Answer
Ans 1 - Hospitals or any health care institutes track the readmission rates, patient falls and blood stream infections to note their quality of service and health care they provided at the first instance. If a patient gets readmitted it means mostly that the healthcare provided at first was not up to the mark or insufficient. Patient falls and infections indicate the care taken and also the expertise of the hospital in providing health care services.
Ans 2 - Hospitals or any health care institutes measure their success rate and also their social image with the quality of services they provide to their patients. Mantaining high quality of service is directly associated with the name of the institute. Patients build up trust with each case properly and efficiently handled by them. It is not that the institute want them to visit again however, it is with the intention of recognition of services provided by them and patients recommendations.
