Question
Most of us would like to visit another country, but how about working there?
Please tell us a bit about your interest in visiting, and your interest in working, or not, in another country, either as a resident in that country or as an expatriate U S person? What are the most appealing aspects to you of working in a foreign country? What are the scariest parts? Would you want to limit yourself to working in a country where English is the primary language or would you be open to going to a non English speaking country? Keep in mind that even if you know the language the culture may be different
Explanation / Answer
I am more interested in working in a foreign country as an expatriate US person. The most appealing aspects of working in a foreign country are the local traditions, customs, the places of historic importance and the stories behind them, and the exotic tourist attractions, apart from the interesting food and people I get to meet and know. Travelling and working in foreign country broadens the perspectives and provides learning about the international business aspects, which is a very useful learning.
The scariest parts of working in a foreign country are the racial or ethnic discrimination, regressive attitude of people, traditions or cultures that are based on superstitions, any hostile government policies or regulations, whether the region is more prone to natural calamities or epidemic/diseases, and if the country is afflicted with problems of political conflicts, terrorism, hostile business environment, micro and macro-economic conditions’ favorability to business.
I’d rather not limit myself to English speaking countries and go to places of importance from business, leisure, tourism point of view. I’d not want language to be a barrier to me from gaining enriching experiences, learning from diverse places, which otherwise have a lot to offer.
