Conflict is the result of mutually exclusive objectives or views, manifested by emotional responses such as anger, fear, frustration and elation. Some conflicts are inevitable in the work environment due to human relationship, and in some instances when an audit is performed and nonconformance are observed. Conflict is nothing but the situation or circumstances that occur due to disagreement between two person, a person and group or two groups. The reasons for conflict situations are difference in ideas, opinions, values or attitude. Conflict can be good or bad based on the situation.
I faced a conflict situation at work when we were given extra responsibility to complete the target. It was a team of ten members. Team leader gave us the responsibility to take the decision as to how to complete the target. All of us decided to do over time by spending two hours extra at work so that we can meet the target. Out of the ten members, one member was in disagreement with this decision. He does not want to spend extra hours at work as he finds it non-beneficial to him.
In order to overcome the situation, we tried to convince him by making him understand how important it is for the team to complete the task. It is important to think about the team first before thinking about self. We extended our support to him by making him realize that the completion of this particular task will be beneficial for the team which in turn will be beneficial for all the members because management would appreciate the hardwork of the team members.
It is very important for anyone to resolve the conflict situation before it becomes unmanageable. Building trust within the team is important. This can be done by extending support, talking to each others feeling, respecting each others ideas and views etc.
