1.Name three different facility layouts used to manufacture product. Give an example that is applicable for each.

1. Three types of manufacturing layout are
Product layout: Here all the processes are arranged in a single line. The product that is manufactured has to just pass through the line that is kept for manufacturing. It is also called as line layout. This is used for products that are produced in large quantities. Eg., packing of noodles
Process layout: Here the processes are kept as per the requirement. It is not necessary that the product has to pass through all the processes that are kept in the order. It is sufficient that it passes through only the required processess. Eg., manufacturing of tyres.
Fixed Position Layout: The main product that is being manufactured is fixed in one position, and the tools and treatment process is done by bringing the machines close to the product where it is being positioned. It is mainly done for products which are very heavy and bulky in nature. Eg., manufacturing of rail compartments
2. It is first the product is designed. Not the manufacturing process. The manufacturing process needs to be set according to the requirements of the product. It is the product characteristics that define the manufacturing process. If a product requires a finishing of 1 micron, then such a type of manufacturing process needs to be used. A one mircron finishing capability machinery may not be used on a 10 micron finishable product. It will of utter waste.
3. I will try and reward the behaviours like., honesty in the production process. People who are willing to put in the hard yards will be rewards. Attitude to give quality at any cost will be highly rewarded. Only when these qualities are rewarded the manufacturing unit will go different heights.
