The Democratic Party in US follows a hybrid process of selecting a candidate for the Presidential election. The party in order to select a candidate considers the pledged delegates that are selected via primaries and caucuses. At the same time the party also has some super delegates reserved who also decide that which candidate is to be send for the presidential election or not.

On the other hand the Republican Party follows a process wherein the delegates who are selected through primaries and Caucasus are the ones who decide that which candidate should be selected for the presidential elections.

Thus, Democratic Party possesses the power to stop a candidate from running for the post of presidential candidate as with help of votes from super delegates, they could select some other candidate.

This process is also good in the sense that in case a person wins over the delegates with the help of more money power, he or she could be restrained from contesting elections with the help of votes of super delegates.

The party in such a case also has the power to exercise its choice of selecting candidates and in turn exercise its ideology.

On the other the process used for selecting a presidential candidate vests all the power in the hands of delegates. Thus, a person who has more money power could make use of it and could make most of the delegates vote for him or her.
