After viewing the video on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and reading the chapter on motivation - provide an example of how a company meets each of the levels on the pyramid. What opportunities does the company offer to the employee? How important do you feel it is that the company provides opportunities for each level? Do you think it is up to the company to provide opportunities for each level? Is the employee responsible for meeting each of the levels?

A case of manufacturing company is taken as an example that meets the each level of needs as shown in the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. At the bottom of the pyramid, there is physiological needs that consists of the need of food, shelter and other basic human needs. In this regard, company gives adequate compensation to employees as per the labor laws and related guidelines so that employees fulfill their basic needs. It is the first step in motivation as demotivated workforce will not be able to achieve the desired level of performance. Next level of the pyramid is safety needs. Under this, company not only provides safe work environment but also gives medical insurance cover, in-house doctors and first aid services. Company also offers regular training and development program to make employees better equipped with latest skills. It gives them the sense of job security and good career prospects with the present company. Thus, employees get more motivated towards achieving a common objective.
Next level of the pyramid is emotional needs. It is also given due consideration by the company. Besides developing a bonding among employees, get together programs for employees’ family are also organized on a regular basis. Company also recognizes and rewards best performing employees that fulfil the next level of hierarchy, Esteem Needs. It is very important because everyone wants to be recognized for the good work done by them. It also sets example to others to perform at the same level. At the top of hierarchy is the self-actualization needs. In this regard, company delegate authorities and make some senior employees to be the mentor. In this role, they fulfill their self-actualization needs. Working on all these five levels of the needs as shown in the pyramid cause highest level of motivation among employees. It brings the best out of them and objective of the company is achieves in best possible manner.

It is very important for the company to provide opportunities at each level as it will help in the fulfillment of their needs of each level. It will nourish the motivation in best possible manner that will convert in to superior performance and higher efficiency.
Yes, it is the company that will provide opportunity at each level. Though, it is the employee who has to grab the opportunities to create a win-win situation. Without enthusiasm among employees regarding the opportunities, company’s efforts will not give expected results. Thus, employees should also be supportive of the initiatives taken up by the employers.
