please let me know how to get this answers.

The three-station work cell illustrated in the figure below has a product that must go through S7.11. one of the two machines at station I (they are parallel) before proceeding to station 2. a) the bottleneck time of the system is 30 minutes per unit (enter your response as a whole number). b) Station 2 is the bottleneck station. c) The throughput time is 45 minutes (enteryour response as a whole number). d) If the firm operates 9 hours per day, 5 days per week, the weekly capacity of this work cell is 90 units (enter your response as a whole number).

Explanation / Answer

Answer :

a) Bottle Neck :

Here Bottle neck is at station No 2. Station 2 produce 2 jobs per hour .

So 60 min / 2 = 30 min

Now rest of the station they have more capacity to produce than this station .So bottleneck is of 30 min.

b) Station 2 is the bottleneck station :

Yes I agree with the statement. Bottle neck is at station no 2. Machine A or Machine B at station 1 are producing the jobs 20 units per hour where station 3 is producing 5 jobs per hour. Here only station no 2 is producing 2 jobs per hour which is bottleneck for the process.

c) Throughput time :

Throughput time = A time required to manufacture 1 job in whole process.

Station 1 (Machine A or Machine B ) + Station 2 + Station 3

= 3 min per job (60 min / 20 jobs) + 30 min per job ( 60 min / 2 jobs) + 12 min (60 min / 5 jobs)

= 45 min

d) Weekly Capacity

In above problem bottle neck is at station 2. That station produces 2 units per hour.

Machine run time = 9 hours * 5 Days

Total Jobs produced = 2 * 9 * 5

= 90 units.
