Question

Examine the leader’s role in setting goals and giving feedback.
Use the leader you identified in M1D1 and worked with in M2D1. Determine if the leader you chose implements a particular goal theory.
If so, identify the theory and explain its use. 1. Examine an alternative goal theory that could/should be used by the leader. 2. Analyze the use of this goal theory for individual and organizational success. 3. Evaluate the relationship between the leadership theory you identified in M1D1 and the goal theory. 4. Assess if there is a disconnect between the two. If there is, explain why and recommend a change (either leadership or goal theory).

If not, identify and explain how the leader you chose relates goals for followers. 1. Examine an appropriate goal theory that the leader should implement. 2. Analyze the use of this goal theory for individual and organizational success. 3. Evaluate the relationship between the leadership theory you identified in M1D1 and the goal theory. 4. Assess if there is a disconnect between the two. If there is, explain why and recommend a change (either leadership or goal theory).

M1D1 The quality of the leader that I had experience has the quality of having a quick and accurate decision making, honest, listens to his or her subordinates or vice versa, fair, trustworthy, and most of all, being a good mentor. A good mentor directs their subordinates and mentored to the right path. A good example is showing how to be successful in life like advancing at work, education, financial education; investing while they are young. For me, experience helps a person to be a good leader. Most of the time a good leader has to self-assess to make sure he or she is doing his or her job right, and most importantly, he also shows his presence to his subordinates during our off time to gain respect or eat out in a restaurant as long as it is a whole group. There's a rule in the Military that you cannot go out with one person since that is an offense under Uniform Code of Military Justice called "Fraternization," and I believe in the civilian sector that is also not advisable since it will also show favoritism to other subordinates. In assessing the person’s leadership by using one of the leadership theories in this week’s reading, I would say that the leader was more constructive and formidable to take decisions. Transformative quality was present in him as a leader and by evaluating him if his leadership style is effective or ineffective; I would say that he is effective because his subordinate became successful with advancing in rank, getting an outstanding evaluation and getting one of the highest awards.

M1D2 The Chain of Command has the power over my leader, and I see that they support him through success; of course we still have to deal with politics. If you look at social science and politics, the leader's authority greatly influenced the behavior of people; it is often used for power perceived legitimate by the social structure. It can be evil and unjust, so for the society, it is accepted as endemic to humans. Looking at the business aspect, they expressed it as being "upward" or "downward". With downward control, a company's supervisor influences subordinate. Whenever a company exerts an upward power, the subordinates influence the decisions of their leader. By using power, leaders don't need to commit coercion. Some people distinguish "influence" as power. One such example includes soft power, as compared to hard power. My Leadership Character; A person’s true character is revealed by what he does when no one else is watching. To be a great leader, you have to establish to be a great leader of yourself. "No man can climb out beyond the limitations of his character" (Morley, 1996). As General Norman Schwarzkopf says; "Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without strategy" (Kruse, 2012). When people respect you as a person, they admire you. When they recognize you as a friend, they love you. When they know you as a leader, they follow you. You will get respected, and they will admire you. When they know you as a friend, they love you. When they recognize you as a leader, they follow you. It is up to you to set a standard of behavior. He has the three “Cs” of leadership credibility and is summarized as follows; Credo – This I believe. Competencies – This I can do. Conviction – This I will do.
