Question
5 dysfunctions: Character- Martin gilmore, Chief Technologist
-Did your character demonstrate any biases, message distortion or negative team traits?
-Do you agree with this quote from the book? How does your character’s role contribute to your thinking? “Theoretically if everyone is completely on the same page and working in lockstep toward the same goals with no sense of confusion, then I suppose lack of debate is a good thing….” (p 46).
-How would your character approach meetings. Does your character like meetings? Why or why not
Explanation / Answer
Yes. Anything excessive always turns out to be negative. Sarcastic comments on the staff’s mistakes or incorrectness will lead to disruptions in the staff. The character has a lot of negative team traits as he thinks of himself as superior to others which in real sense would be true but that is not something you can show off to other staff working with you be it colleagues at the same level or subordinates.
Yes I agree with the quote because if everyone in the team knows what is his/her work or contribution to the overall team work then there is no margin of error and confusion. The overall performance of the team if efficient as there is no communication gaps in the team.
Martin didn’t disrupt staff meetings. In fact, he rarely participated. It wasn’t that he refused to attend those meetings it was just that he always had his laptop open, and he seemed to be constantly checking e-mail or doing something similarly engrossing. Only when someone made a factually incorrect statement could Martin be counted on to offer a comment, and usually a sarcastic one at that.
