Explanation / Answer

Speaking from personal experience I am currently one member of a team of twenty one people that also consist of a team lead, supervisor, and manager. We work in a call center and there are eleven teams in Call Execution. Call Execution is the nucleus of the building; all conference calls are executed from this department. Our functionality categorizes the unit as a horizontal team (Daft, 2010). We are called the Wells Fargo team and our primary responsibility is to execute all conferencing needs for the company. By being dedicated to this company as a team we have learned what the customers expect from us as a company and service provider. We have built a rapport with them and essentially we are an extension of their company. My experience as a member of this team is one that can at times be challenging as well as beneficial. One of the advantages of being on a team is collectively we function well as a unit. Our “working” relationships are close net and we are able to step into any role of an absent team member when needed. We are all familiar with the account and share concerns and critical information with each other in a timely manner as not to affect the customer. The customers have become loyal to the company in reciprocation to our loyalty to them. One of the challenges of being on a team structured like this is that operating as a proficient and efficient team requires that we adjust to the many personalities and differences of opinions of each other as a team. Occasionally, it is extremely difficult to work in an environment where ninety percent of the staff is women and we all are known for having “our” days. We learned to respectfully agree to disagree at times while keeping the “best interest” of the customer as the focal point.
