Question
You are part of a meeting with a managers from a unit of your firm about to establish business operations in China. Prior to the meeting, your manager has asked that you familiarize yourself with the business practices in China so that you could discuss some of the do’s and don’ts’s when they start their operations. For example, your manager suggested that while they may be aware of the terms guanxi and guanxiwang, it may be good to explain why it is important to cultivate these in China, what they need to know about cultivating these effectively, what does this say about doing business the “American” way in China, and are there ethical issues (limits?) that may arise because of such practices.
Explanation / Answer
be as Roman when you are in Rome is the saying we must always do remember, means behave yourself according to the surroundings is the moto. when we do business in china, we must practice the culture and tradition of China only. Chinees are more rigid in nature about their language, culture, practices, traditions etc, they love to expose and receive it all the times.
Guanxi means the networks and connections in english, where as business player we must establishg good network and connections with all, includes customers, suppliers, retailers, sellers, dealers etc. It help us to attract more and more customers and also bring new customers to us. These people belives that good relations give them good support and resulted in good trust. If you are able to provide trust and confidence in chines, then your business will be more succesful.
the other aspect of Chinese is they prefers and loves to speak in their mother tounge than any other language. for this, we, as business people, if we speaks a little bit of the language, it is easy to mingle and interact with them and help us to strenghen there.
