1) Write a critique memo, explaining what went wrong with the original document. Make sure to apply in the critique the knowledge of visual communication you have learned in this class and use a professional language to point out the flaws of the document. That is, you need to clearly demonstrate in the memo that you have a professional know-how on document design, for example, of those visual design principles presented in the textbook (Chs. 14 &16), such as alignment, contrast, grouping, repetition, etc. (Some of the principles are clearly absent in the original.) In other words, readers can tell you have been educated on the subject of visual communication/information design.
Since audience holds the key to effective communication, you can also examine the document from the perspective of an actual customer/user. For example, will the customer be able to access the information quickly and easily? What flaw(s) in design stops him/her from doing so? Or what makes usability so poor? In your critique, also offer suggestions for improvement, but with a rationale (i.e., explaining why your design suggestions would help create a better and more effective document for the customer/user).

Following are the hinderances a customer is going to face while trying to access and grasp the information provided in the ad.
1. Poor quality print causes the impression of one side of the print visible on other, makes reading diffcult and likely to put off many cusomers at first glance. The paper starts with a weird loking sun logo, that does not look like an effort to attract the beholders.
2. Repetition of information like phone number and email ID.
3. Inconsistency of information. The ad starts with store closure and opening hours and repeated use of words like "Deadline" makes it more of a business memo. Ordering procedures etc. could have been given towards the end.
4. No segregation of information. The sauces, cat food, rescue cream, laundry wash,pasta, bar soap, everything has been put together in a mess, which makes the products difficult to locate.
5. Unclear information. The information on discounts does not communicate the message from the poster to the customer in clear concise way. Asking of free price guide and prairies news etc. seems to be out of place and context.
6. Irrelevant information . The piece of infromation on allergies is unwarranted on advertisement. It will actually make many people susceptible and reluctant to make a purchase.
By use of good documentation and print, well presented information with concise and crisp display of commodities with special features, prices, promotional offers and availability can make it a better reading document. Terms and conditions may be written towards the end, while irrelevant infromation on allergies may be removed completely.
