I think it makes sense for SIA to continue to operate under current standards and company direction as an airline. They should update HR practices and wage structure to morally reflect modern standards of treatment such as abolishing time-based contracts and employee bonus reliance on company profit, which is often affected by economic variables out of the employees’ control. In this regard I believe they will reduce a lot of employee stress regarding uncertain futures and promoting good health is a key component to employee satisfaction as stated by April Shetrone of Inc.com. I think they should retain the 5 core elements of their HR strategy, but update the way in that they administer their leadership for service excellence by increasing their true trust in employees to better reflect the “empowerment” they strive to produce, while also paying fairly for the level of service they expect employees to deliver on. Even with modest base wage increases, they would still fall below the cost-per-seat-kilometer of other Asian airlines that vary between 5-7 cents while SIA still sits well-below at 4.6 cents. I believe this will allow employees to achieve their potential in the most sustainable manner for future growth while only costing the airline a modest amount more up-front. Do you agree this will allow SIA to stay competitive and true to their service excellence while improving employee relations for the future?
Explanation / Answer
Yes, I do agree that the SIA can remain competitive and true to their service excellence while improving employee relations for the future.
The leadership for successful Airline Company requires that the leadership shall focus on the customer and employees. The customer shall be given best services while employee concern shall be taken seriously. Paying the employee in rightful manner and making them part of the growth process positively impacts any airline company.
