My results from the Myers-Briggs Indicator Assessment showed that I am an INFJ-T, otherwise known as the advocate personality. According to the website 16personalities the advocate personality is rare, making up less than one percent of the population. A person with an advocate personality sees their purpose in life is to help others, but not just as in charity. Their real passion is to solve the issue.

After reading the definition of the advocate personality, I saw quickly how it described me very well. I also saw how I use it every day in my classroom. I am an advocate for my students. They each have their own disability, but I teach them every day that it does not define who they are. I advocate for them against other teachers, who feel they can’t participate in the general education setting, I advocate for them against their parents, when their parents are saying they can’t. I tell them, they can. It might look different, it might take a little longer, it might even be challenging, but they can.

Also, our school is a high poverty school, so it is not unusual for students to come to school wearing dirty clothes, or clothes/shoes too small, maybe they haven’t eaten. Everyone knows my room is filled with whatever they need to help meet their student’s needs. They also know I have contact information as to where these families can go to get help. It all confidential, and usually greatly appreciated.
