Question
Ethical issue. An airline pilot goes to his regular medical checkup. The doctor discovers that he has developed a heart murmur. The pilot only has a month to go before he is eligible for retirement. The doctor knows this and wonders whether, under these unusual circumstances, she is justified in withholding the information about the pilot's condition until he can retire. If doctor releases the information now, he wouldn't get any retirement benefits. What should the doctor do? What is your comment
Explanation / Answer
If the pilot already worked for so long he is entitle for this retirement benefits however the doctor also needs to be follow high ethic standards.
The doctor is on a difficult situation, my comment would be that the doctor needs to investigate if there is a precedent on a similar case and what was the out come.
If this pilot worked so many years it was until now that the heart murmur was discovered, it does not seem fair to take away his benefits.
My comment is to look for the possibility to provide a justity leave of absence to the pilot so he will not fly right now and start immeditaly his retirnement and enjoy his benefits if this is not possible then to look for a similar case and work towards the benefit of the pilot
