Ellen Bohn, the vice president of production, had recently moved to Xographics from a firm where she had been the manager of a large office staff. The three managers reporting to Bohn at her new job all had 20 or more years of experience with Xographics. They had seen it go from an effective production division to one that was badly troubled with problem workers and poor performance.

Shortly after her arrival, while talking with one of the managers, Bohn learned that many of them were upset because of the previous vice president’s insistence that employees report any machine breakdown to him or one of his assistants within 15 minutes of the breakdown. They felt that this didn’t give the employees the opportunity to repair the machine themselves. The manager told Bohn that the word was that once an employee had five breakdown reports, he or she was taken off the machine and given a lower paying job.

1. Ellen Bohn should implement new and better performance management strategies to ensure the healthy/smooth functioning of the organization. She must initiate a training programme within the organization in order to retrain the workforce on how to use the machines efficiently as the managers are apparantly dealing with lack of proper techniques and efficiency which leads to unproductivity. She must be both firm and strict with her undertakings and by scanning the internal business environment on a regular basis may help the organization to reach its desired goal within the specified period of time while ensuring Productivity. She must have a direct contact with the subordinates which helps to strengthen the (senior authority-subordinates) relationship and whenever the employees face any kind of trouble, Bohn should encourage them and give them directions. As happiness can also be a measure of productivity.
Following this pattern makes up a structure run like cogs in a wheel.

2. The problems that are unidentified by Bohn and might be present in the organization could be the lack of efficiency, low productivity and negligent performance.
The earlier vice president of Xographics was following the authoritative leadership style and was a toxic leader which hampered the morale of the employees and they might be dealing with low self-esteem and as he didn't allow employees their freedom and this could be a potential threat to the internal environment of the company which may harm the revenue of the organization as the employees must be treated as the "personal assets" of the company and dealing with them in a negative manner can throw a businessman out of the market.

3. The managers must take such steps in order to achieve the desired goal of the organization:-
-To enhance the learning roles, the managers must assign jobs to the employees based on their history as well as their potential, employees should be engaged in more creative ways, New methods of leadership and overachiever should be employed. Self-criticism should be a focus and motivation should be provided to the workers which will allow them a certain level of freedom in order to achieve better results at their already assigned tasks, venture into new outlooks, grow dynamically, take on various projects and essentially learn from every experience.-

-To find creative solutions to problems, proper standards are maintained and mistakes are allowed to be made which essentially allow a company to build a better structure which is more suited to deal with various different function and challenges that are provided to it. This allows the employees to be more efficient, learn at the job, communicate effectively and therefore, grow, in response to the culture that is followed by the organization and ensure the toxic nature of leadership to be rooted out.
It allows a worker to feel confident even when they are being criticised.
