You may have heard of sayings such as, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail” or “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Whether formal or informal, planning helps you set goals and strategize to make organized and better decisions.

The textbook explains that formal planning improves organizational performance. Share an experience in which you planned and an experience in which you did not plan. What were the outcomes? Describe any control processes you implemented.

Explanation / Answer

I planned a wedding for my cousin. The planning was proper having proper milestones to achieve. I had proper planning with strict deadlines to follow. I tried to abide by the same following were the outcome:

1. Meeting deadlines on time

2. There was buffer time for any unpredictable inefficiency.

3. No clash of events or unnecessary shortage.

4. However, there were many just in time changes made in the plan for improvement

5. Many things planned such as the sweet vendor was changed at the last minute due to his unavailability.

The controls that I had in this scenario was sticking to the deadline, ensuring quality, continuous review and taking corrective actions in case of any issue is detected.

I did not plan for the preparation of my midterm exam and following was the outcome:

1. I could not complete my course in the time

2. I had no time revise and practice

3. I did not score well in the exams

4. I emphasized more on the subject which I felt was easy
