Question

A- Does this paragraph correctly introduce the quote? Does it do a good job explaining or analyzing the quote? YES or NO and explain.

Michelle Alexander argues that the countless arrests of individuals, who happen to be African American, is due to racial discrimination rather than just plain high levels of crime in minority communities. “The United States imprisons a larger percentage of its black population than South Africa did at the height of apartheid.” She is comparing the United States to one of the most racially violent societies in history, in order to show that something is deeply wrong here. South Africa was a dictatorial, white supremacist regime designed to keep minority white rule and kept black South Africans disempowered on purpose. Under Apartheid, South Africa imprisoned black South Africans who spoke out. So the comparison of the U.S. to South Africa should be shocking to us. She wants us to think there is something out of whack in our country’s statistics, which show that a disproportionate number of black and brown people are imprisoned.

B- Bryan Stevenson says, "...Each of us is more than the worst thing we’ve ever done."(explain)
