Question
Without using an excell sheet show all calculations clearly
A company has a production line for paving concrete for driveway and parking lots. The company expects the following demand for its products for the next four weeks.
week
1
2
3
4
Paving Concrete required (tons)
50
76
60
70
The company’s production standard for labour is 4hours/ton and that for the machine is 3hours/ton. The weekly available capacity for labour is total 300hours while that of machine is 200hours. Do he followings:
(a)Calculate the load percent of labour and the load percent of machine for each week. From the calculation, in which which weeks the scheduled work cannot be completed(4 marks).
Load Percent = load/capacity x 100
(b)The company wants to have a uniform workload in the production line over the four-week horizon. Find the average production level. Then use this as the uniform production level. Calculate load percentage again using this uniform production level. Then develop a production level to achieve it. You should also need to check if the production meets the demand using the inventory profile. Find the total inventory level cross the four week period.

Explanation / Answer
As per the Load Percent, the task would not be completed in week 2 due to the labour & machine hour capacity. In addition to this, week 4 is also crossing over the constraint of machine hour and hence, the task would not be completed in week 4 too.
B) In Average Production level, we produce a quantity equal to the average of all demands i.e Avg(50,76,60,70) = 64
On observing the Load factors, we see that the production is well in compliance with the Labour and Machine hour constraints.
