14.6 Oral communication is an essential part of interaction and tranfer of ideas, knowledge or directions in any profession or business. Through other forms of communication are helpful and important too but having an effective oral communication at the workplace helps in the growth of the individual, atmosphere and business on the whole. Oral communication helps in understanding the other person's message with more clarity and effectiveness. It helps the employers to get the work done with a clear communication path and the employees to express their views and give feedback on the task they are delegated and be more expressive about their expections in the company. An unclear or difficult path of oral communication leads to confusion and less productivity than a healthy communication atmosphere. This is about the internal environment. But visiualising the external environment also oral communication with customers, clients, business partners, and all type of stake holders help them build a strong link with the company and helps the company to understand their perspectives and use them for developing strategies for business growth.

The need of oral communication skills certainly change with the advancement of individuals in their profession. A lower level employee will have to interact with fewer people than one holding a higher position and more responsibilities. The employees with less and easy tasks will not need to interact with their superiors orally more often than the employees with more complex and responsible tasks. The professionally advanced employees will also have to communicate orally with the people in the organization as well as outside the organization and use that information for productivity and growth. Oral communication on one to one basis is also easier than that held with large group of professionals. Hence the skills of oral communication have to be enhanced with advancement in the profession of the person.

For newcomers the suggestion that the ones with effective communication skills can make are about how to have an oral communication with a person in the most effective and clear manner with which result in optimum results. In oral communication conveying the message in the manner that the other person understands it clearly and it brings the outcome that is desired. A failure of communication can be when the message conveyed is lengthy and uninteresting and the person gets more confused on getting it. Hence how to coney the message in the best possible manner, the voice pitch, the vocabulary to use, the body language and the length of the message are elements of an oral communication that makes it effective. These should be made clear to newcomers for helping them develop an effective oral communication in their profession.
