Question

The supplied article by Kaufmann “Eight Elements of an Ethical Organization” has some interesting insight into what drives us as leaders to be an ethical model in an organization.

Why is it imperative that we operate ethically as leaders? This may seem to be an easy question, but I am looking for some in-depth understanding of why leaders do the things that we do, and this certainly applies to our decision making.

Please help.

Explanation / Answer

Leaders in ethical organizations want to hire employees who are responsible and ethical. They look for these qualities in the employees while hiring them. Employees with ethical qualities are the ambassadors for the doing things in the right way. It is important for the leaders to have those qualities in them so that they can expect their managers and employees to be ethical.

Leaders do the things that we do as they want to create a culture of ethics and values in the organization. They want to build a focus on customers, growth and put efforts so that the employees and managers are motivated. They lead by example. It is not just the entrepreneurs who evaluate the employees but employees are also inspired and motivated to work for leaders who believe in ethics, values, integrity, hardwork and create a result oriented organizations. Organizations which focus on customers, take risks to grow, are result oriented and follow best practices are more inspiring in general and likely to succeed.
