Explanation / Answer

The event in case is a national ethnic wear contest organised by the institute I study in. The event, one of its kind is organised every year at one of the member institutes under the umbrella of National Association of Fashion Technology. This is special for us because we got an opportunity to host it this year.

The special thing about the event is that many outside designers will also be participating this year, besides our own students from 18 member institutes of the association. This makes it grand, because participation of professional designers have attracted many sponsors, and we expect around 50000 visitors over four days of the event.

Since this country is a amalgamation of different cultures, languages and religions, there is unmatched diversity in the way people preserve their heritages, textiles being one of them. We expect to see a great spectacle of attires from all four corners of the country. Adding to this are some designers from neighbouring countries of orient, which will also have their latest collections, making it event of all times.

The idea behind the event is the exchange of ideas, philosophies and beliefs, as diverse as the country itself which reflects in the people's dresses, particularly the handicrafts and the ethnic wear worn during fetivities, rituals and marriages. This enables the students to not only socialise with their fellow students from faraway state, but also a window to the rich cultural heritage of the country, that completes their learning and leads to the generation of new ideas.

The inclusion of commercial element, by inviting the professionals,is a great step towards making the students aware about the real world of business, of which everyone of us will be a part shortly. This interaction will be a great learning opportunity for all. A mentorship of one month for every student under an established designer will be useful in making him / her acquaint with the crux of system and be industry ready.

Being one of the organisers of the event, it is a great learning platform for me to observe how the things work. It will help me to see the real world of fashion up close, and have an integrative learning from a number of sources in a number of disciplines like project management, teamwork, technical aspects of business, communication, financial management besides an opportunity to build networks and socialise.
