National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA): Stop the manufacture and sale of Django Unchained collector dolls
These dolls, while based on fictional characters, are slaves and remind many Black people of a painful past. This movie has no historical significance and was made solely for entertainment value. I don’t see how NECA can, in good conscience, make a doll that represents a period in OUR history when Blacks were raped and hung and families destroyed just because of the color of our skin. Did you make Schindler’s List dolls when it came out? These dolls are disrespectful to the Black Americans who helped build this country. They are an insult to our heritage.
National Entertainment Collectibles discontinued the 10-doll collection of Django Unchained action figures after receiving complaints that they were offensive. Do you agree with this decision? Why or why not?
Explanation / Answer
This is a correct decision to be taken by the association because dolls which are manufactured for entertainment must not make people relive the pain experienced by them or should not spread some bad message to people like racism. It is abusive to create such dolls and make people remember horrible past. Hence it is a correct decision by the association to discontinue the collection.
