Question

Knowing how much online product reviews can shape consumer behavior, the other co-founder of your company has just circulated an internal email message with the not-so-subtle hint that everyone in your small startup should pose as happy customers and post glowing reviews of your new product on Amazon and other shopping sites. You're horrified at the idea—not only is this highly unethical, but if (or more likely when) the scheme is exposed, the company's reputation will be severely damaged.

Your task: You would prefer to address this in a private conversation, but because your partner has already pitched the idea to everyone via email, you have no choice but to respond via email as well. You need to act quickly before anyone acts on the suggestion. Write a response, explaining why this is a bad idea and telling employees not to do it. Keep in mind that you are chastising your business partner in front of all your employees. Make up any names or other details you need.

Explanation / Answer

Subject: Regarding the suggestion and idea to write positive reviews on the Amazon web portal.

Dear Employees, cofounder and friends,

I would like to say that reviews are the part of the feedback process that not only helps the consumers to buy our products, but also it helps our organization to learn the issues about the product, fix it and improve the design to make it better. It makes our organization to be perceived as caring, value creator for the consumers and genuine towards the stakeholders. These objectives of reviews can only be fulfilled when the reviews given by people, including us as employees are genuine. It will help all the stakeholders and make our organization learn and grow.

Besides, I would also like to say that genuine reviews will help:

1.    that our organization learns and act quickly if we employees as internal customer give genuine reviews.

2.    that customer come to know it and develop trust upon us, building a positive value proposition among the target audience.

3.    that organization can improve the products that are to be offered to the consumers.

4.    that it builds reputation of the organization.

In the light of the above benefits and gains, I would like to recommend everyone that only genuine reviews should be given without doctoring the views. It will be true help to the organization.

With warm regards
