*State Health Alliance for Records Exchange (SHARE) is the HIE for the state of Arkansas. Privacy and Security Policies that provide guidance and rules for SHARE participants have been developed by the Office of Health Information Technology (OHIT), in collaboration with the health care community. These policies promote balance between patient control of and access to health information, and the operational needs of participating providers.

SHARE’s policies and procedures are rooted in nine privacy principles:

The policies in the OHIT document are classified into 12 sections as follows –

*Yes, there are policies or information regarding data integrity and these have detailed under the Policy 200: Notice of Privacy Practices and Policy 400: Access to and Use and Disclosure of Information.

*Yes, I would participate in the HIE because of its focus to promote lawful balance between privacy and sharing of the health information. There are policies that ensure interests of all participants such as participant’s choice, revocation, not withholding coverage, maintaining audit logs and uniform authentication process. Further, SHARE allows extension of policies to Bas and contractors as well.

*SHARE policies provide protection to PHI in compliance with HIPAA Privacy Standards. Policy 500 provides details to protect PHI and Policy 600 promote minimal usage and disclosure of PHI.
