Explanation / Answer

“Excellent firms don't believe in excellence – only in constant improvement and constant change.” - Tom Peters

It is pertinent for any organization to improve to excel in what they do. I worked in a multinational publishing company which published scientific and business journals and books. Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) was of prime importance. There was a CIP manager and the CI manager reports to the site head. The CI manager was in charge of educating the teams with the importance of continuous improvement. Then the teams are taught the different CI techniques. Each team member is responsible to select a problem (problem statement) and use the CI technique problem (like A3 problem solving, Fishbone diagrams, etc) to solve the problem. Then the solved problems are put up on notice boards visible to all the employees. This made the employees how to improve the processes and solve similar problems. CIP worked really well in our organization and it became the key aspect in performance appraisals.
