For this assignment, I would like you to review the five perceptual errors listed below.

Oversimplifying: Tendency to prefer simplicity over complexity because it is less effort

Imposing consistency: Tendency to impose patterns where they don’t exist

Focusing on the negative: Tendency to perceive negative characteristics as more important than positive

Making a fundamental attribution error: Tendency to assume that others’ failures are their own fault, but that success is due to situational factors

Exhibiting a self-serving bias: Tendency to assume that our own failures are due to situational factors, but our success is due to our personal qualities

Following your review, you need to identify/describe an incident/circumstance that has taken place in your life that matches each of those perceptual errors. Explanation / Answer

Oversimplifying: It is the way which needs to be avoided in any dealings for developing business or for any client interaction. Oversimplifying can become an issue in the process of generating any leads for the organization. As if simplification is made purely in front of the client dealings it can take the situation off, as there are certain factors which are necessary to be kept as secret. The factors which include are required to be only said for simplification and gradually as per the requirements.

Imposing consistency: It is the act which is necessary to be kept constant in any dealings or for communication purpose. It is necessary to make a clean and positive approach; the consistency is required to impose in the process of dealing so that a better way of generating the leads or relationships can be held.

Focusing on the negative: The negative approaches are not necessary to be focused; it should pre avoided by deciding the future impact of any process or dealings before the time. The positive things are always necessary to be welcomed but to maintain the positivity it is necessary to fix the negativity.  

Making a fundamental attribution error: It is a not correct approach to decide that success comes from the situational factors, the success factors come from the great determination in work and the failure is not pre-defined, as the failure comes from many situational factors. The situational factors are like competition, political influence etc.

Exhibiting a self-serving bias:
This perception cannot be stated as wrong, as sometimes it has seen that instead of a good performance, the success is not coming. But, the cases are rare as failure generally comes from lack of efficiency in work or maybe situational like competitive advantages.
