Evaluating a company or organization can provide a great overview of a company or organization’s overall performance. Fortune magazine has been created lists of the top companies for many years.  Review the list of companies from this year (http://beta.fortune.com/fortune500) and review the list of companies from years past (http://archive.fortune.com/magazines/fortune/most-admired/2012/full_list/).  Discuss your first impressions of the top 10 companies on the list.  How has the list changed over the past five, ten and fifteen years?  Do you believe there will be a shift in the future of what companies will be in the top?  Why or why not? 

Explanation / Answer

The current top companies of 2017 includes walmart, Berkshire hathaway, apple, exxon mobil, mckesson, united health group, cvs health, general motors, at&t and ford motor. The companies are promient and they are popylar for their competitive advantage. These are companies that have invested heavily in technology and innovation. The ivestment has paid off with its unique competitive adantage. It has strong strategy and effective reputation. The top 50 companies have changed for the past few years. The companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, Coca Cola, IBM, FedEx that were top companies in 2012. 2017 saw Berkshire Hathway on number 2. 2012 saw the companies that have focused on expansin and innovation. There has been a shift in the last 12 to 15 years. There is so much of competition and there is requirement for companies to work harder on its goals and objectives. THe strategies need to stand apart and the competitive advantage needs to be strong. There are lot of startup companies that are makign a strong impact and there will be new additions to the list in the future.
