Explanation / Answer

In today’s era, where there is a humungous advancement in industrialization and technology, the three stakeholders who invested interest in the decision which would allow a continued secret ballot process are: employees, employers and the shareholders. Employers prefer secret ballots to have a fair and just election system. In the card check system, the employees are forced or stressed to select a particular person in the union. Shareholders prefer to have the right person to be selected in the unions to avoid any unfair practices during the negotiations like salary increase or the working hours. Employees want free choice in elections rather than be forced to elect someone whom they do not like to be elected. The privacy of the employees are lost. Due to the drastic decrease in the unions, the labor unions use the card system to join many dues paying members. To avoid all these factors, the stakeholders prefer the secret ballot voting.

2.The Employee free choice act ends the card system. The act states that it is the choice or the willingness of the employees for voting in the United States. The Employee free choice act also states that it if a new employee wants to join the union activities he can “opt in” for the same. The privacy of the employees is protected under the act. The bill was passed to curb the unfair practices of the card system. In the video provided, “Secret Ballots Should Be Used For Unions, Too (Washington Examiner, 4/4/16)” states that the labor unions was beneficial to the country in the early 1900s since the labors were abused. But today there are unions which want to be mandated with more and more benefits which cannot be afforded by the organizations. The unions play a team work between the employees and the employers. Sen. Johnny Isakson insists on the employee free choice act to encourage the employees enjoy their freedom of rights to vote for the unions. The basic tenet of democracy is secret ballots and this is exercised in almost all the organizations having unions.

Sen. Johnny Isakson also states that it makes sense to protect the privacy of the employees rather than the card system which is biased. The card system is a force used on employees to join the union activities and this practice can be curbed by the Employees Free choice Act. In my workplace, since the secret ballot voting works best to make a choice on the rewards system, it is still a practice even after many years.
